CO2 Incubators

CO2 incubators are essential equipment for any cell culture laboratory, providing the stable temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide levels that mammalian cells need to survive and thrive. Whether you’re running a pharmaceutical research program, university biology lab, IVF clinic, or biotech startup, choosing the right CO2 incubator is one of the most critical decisions you’ll make for your cell culture workflow.

At Labrepco, we supply CO2 incubators from two of the most trusted names in cell culture equipment: PHCbi (formerly Panasonic) and NuAire, both known for precision engineering, contamination control, and long-term reliability.

Direct Heat vs. Water-Jacketed: Which Do You Need?

The most important choice you’ll make is heating system type:

  • Direct heat incubators (NuAire NU-5700/5800 series, PHCbi MCO series) heat the chamber walls directly. They recover temperature faster after door openings, making them ideal for labs that access incubators frequently or need rapid setpoint recovery. They’re also lower-maintenance since there’s no water jacket to fill or drain.
  • Water-jacketed incubators (NuAire NU-8600 series) surround the chamber with a water reservoir that acts as a thermal buffer. If there’s a power interruption, the water jacket maintains temperature longer, making them a preferred choice for long-term cultures, overnight experiments, or facilities where power reliability is a concern.

CO2 Sensor Technology

Modern incubators use one of two sensor types:

  • Infrared (IR) sensors are the gold standard. They’re not affected by humidity or temperature fluctuations and maintain accuracy over time without recalibration drift. All PHCbi Cell-IQ and NuAire In-VitroCell ES models use IR sensing.
  • Thermal conductivity (TC) sensors are more common in entry-level models and require more frequent calibration checks.

Contamination Control

All models in our lineup include features designed to keep cultures clean:

  • HEPA filtration removes airborne particulates from circulated air
  • High-heat or UV decontamination cycles (on select PHCbi models) sterilize the interior without chemicals
  • Copper or electropolished stainless steel interiors are naturally antimicrobial and easy to wipe down

Capacity & Stackability

Our CO2 incubators range from compact 50L stackable units (ideal for space-constrained labs or dedicated cell lines) to full-size 160L–200L chambers. PHCbi’s Cell-IQ series and NuAire’s In-VitroCell ES are both available as stackable pairs to maximize your floor footprint.
